Notes & Examples

  • use ? as a wildcard to substitute for any single character, * to substitute for any group of characters
  • use the ? wildcard when the exact spelling of the search term is unknown
  • use the * wildcard when searching for a term occurring anywhere in a field
      (i.e. not only at the beginning)
  • do not place search terms within inverted commas or quotation marks
  • you may use OR and AND in the form search fields but not the keyword search
  • use of brackets and nested queries is not supported

    For Example:
    1. To find instruments with a heading exactly matching 'Apparatus For Haematocrite Determination':
          Headings:  
    2. To find instruments with 'astrolabe' and 'planispheric' anywhere in any heading:
          Headings:  
    3. To find instruments with 'astrolabe' or 'nocturnal' anywhere in any heading:
          Headings:  
    4. To find instruments with 'lewis' and 'evans' anywhere in a single heading entry:
